I am arriving in London Waterloo and I need to get to York. On the return from York I have to get from London to Bath. What is the easiest/cheapest way to get there. From what I can tell… The cheapest way is by National Express Coaches – If you actually need to go from York to Bath via Lonson then click on the FAQ tab on their website and then on the "Open Jaw" option to get a special booking form to do this – 5 hours to York and 7 hours from York to Bath costs £60. The quickest way is to go from London Kings Cross to York (2 hours non-stop) and again, you can go from York to Bath with one change at Birmingham New Street (4 hours overall) if you don't need to return to London – there are a lot of special offers available on these routes but it will probably cost around £100 by train. I don't think you can do the "Open Jaw" option however.

Check out the national express and mega bus web sites. I got a fun fare last month for 1 pound. Also, if you book far enough ahead of time, some train tickets are very cheap. Sometimes the trains were cheaper, sometimes the coaches were. Last month I went from Bath to York on the train, it took about 4 and a half hours I think, and it cost around 15 pounds.
